
Needless to say, that for your business and your life to run smoothly, you need to know where you are and where you want to go. Unfortunately, many people (mostly due to a lack of planning and thinking) jump ahead of themselves without knowing exactly what they want….saying: ‘I’ll tweak it as I go along’. Even though this attitude can sometimes work for them, it’s a sure path to reaching overwhelm, frustration and to missing targets!
Before you start doing anything in your business, you need clarity. Without it, you’ll lose yourself, you’ll miss opportunities, you’ll destroy your chances of being profitable.
Clarity has 2 sides: On one side you need to ‘unclutter’ - delete, cancel, remove and trash things, habits or mindsets. On the other side you need to ‘clarify’ - envisage and expand things, habits or mindsets. But as you know, most of the time we need to clear out space from the old, so we can make room for the new.
Unclutter
It’s not always easy to ‘unclutter’ our space. Sometimes it legitimizes our actions or inactions, but it is a ‘must do’ step if you want to gain clarity. Think about this; we don’t use most of the things we own, we don’t do everything we planned, we don’t behave every time as we said we would just because of external variables. So don’t you think that a lot of that wasted energy could be recycled into something way more meaningful? TODAY is the day! It’s ‘uncluttering’ day.
The physical space
Go from one room to the other and make sure you remove at least 10 items you don’t use. You can trash them, but a better idea would be to give them away to somebody who could really use them. This will take care of your physical space.
The emotional space
Make a list of all the different behaviors you’ve adopted over the years. Which ones are no longer serving you (or never did)? Which ones are sabotaging you? Which ones are preventing you from getting to where you want to go? Which ones fuel your fears? Write them down on a piece of paper, then burn or bury it. Now decide, which behaviors would you like to adopt? Who do you want to be now that you can choose? Who do you want to become to attain the success you so deserve?
The mind space
What stories have you been telling yourself (and the people around you)? What beliefs do you hold as being true (without knowing for sure why) since you started your business? Make a list of all the reasons why you believe (or believed) in these statements. Are these reasons still necessary? You can also burn or bury this list. Now, regain control of your mindsets and decide. Hold a picture of a person you admire and come up with 20 reasons why this person succeeded. What does she say, what does she believe in, what does she do….…you get the idea.
Now that your SPACES have been uncluttered, let’s go to the other side and welcome clarity.
Clarity
Clarity is of the upmost importance. If you don’t get it, you could very well waste a lot of energy, time and especially money trying many strategies or ideas without getting any results.
There are a few non-negotiable benefits to clarity. The mere fact of ‘seeing’ where you are going, relieves stress and overwhelm. It gives you a sense of control, it enables you to make better and quicker decisions. Clarity allows you to see the light to follow instead of being lost and distracted by all the shiny little spots on the sidelines. It’s a wide open freeway that takes you directly to your destination.
Nurturing clarity is to be willing to ask one simple question: ‘Will this new idea serve my vision, my goal, my destination?’ ……. and to keep going when the answer is ‘No’.
Having clarity doesn’t mean that you have to know everything upfront, that you need to have a plan for everything that could happen along the way. Having clarity means that you know exactly where you want to end up, that you are willing to ask yourself the right question and act accordingly.
