This is a BIG one for many people especially entrepreneurs (and high achieving ones!).
“I need to change, I need to be better, I need to do it all”
Well, it may help you feel like you are in control when you “do it all”, but the sad truth is that you are not!
Why do you need to become a pro at WordPress and do your site yourself, even though you don’t know anything about it, just because you want to have control over what and when you place content on your site?
This is what I call “Wanting to change bad habits”. Bear with me for a minute here. What if you could get around that bad habit?
One way of doing this is to find an alternative. Take me for example. I love techie stuff, admittedly, however I don’t have the patience for it sometimes and since my goal is to work with clients, for me it is a waste of time.
My “get around” solution is to have a Technical VA to handle that part. Did I lose control over when I place new content and the type of content? ABSOLUTELY NOT!
Sometimes, you don’t need to change a bad habit (unless it is something really serious), you only need to look 30° to the right or left to find an alternative that can actually make a big difference to your business results.
This is also true with regard to organization; bad habits at this level can cost you time, clients and therefore money. So instead of beating about the bush and getting stuck in the middle of chaos, try to look for alternatives (which you could use in conjunction with your “bad habit”).
Here is a simple, yet great example. Some people cannot help but create a mess (my daughter!). They organize, rearrange, clean, but nothing works and 5 minutes later it looks like a tsunami has hit. Now, don’t even bother asking them to keep it as tidy and neat as possible (a waste of time and you’ll leave yourself open to major frustration). However, decide to keep one area as the messy one, while the rest of the room has to be spot on.
This is another “get around” bad habit that works. If your office sometimes looks like hundreds of leprechauns have run through it…remember this piece of advice and keep one corner of the room as your “special place”.
Now, think about your own situation, your personality and your business. What would you consider as a ‘Bad Habit’ and what ‘Get Around’ could you come up with?
Don’t be shy, come and share your valuable ideas with me …..
